Corynebacterium diphtheriae 감염에 의한 급성 호흡기 혹은 피부 질환
그람 양성 간균, 운동성 없음, 아포 없음
현미경 소견: 곤봉 모양(club-shaped), "Chinese characters" (한자 모양 배열)
배양: Löffler media, Tellurite media (검은색 집락)
병태생리
외독소(Exotoxin) 생성: 박테리오파지에 의해 tox 유전자 획득
기전: Elongation factor-2 (EF-2)의 ADP-ribosylation → 단백질 합성 억제 → 세포 사멸
